Yachting in Limassol: Why March Is the Best Month to Begin the Season on the Water

share

Limassol is Cyprus’s main maritime city and one of the most convenient destinations for yachting in a true “city + sea” format. Locals call it Lemesos — the Greek name you will see on road signs and hear in everyday speech.

Why March Is the Right Time to Start

March in Limassol usually offers comfortable conditions for the first outings of the season: average temperatures are often in the range of 12–20°C, with around 7 hours of sunshine a day, and winds that are generally light (around 10 km/h) without the heaviness of summer heat. The sea temperature in March is around 17°C: swimming is not for everyone yet, but for training sessions, daytime outings, and calm cruising, the conditions are considered very comfortable. The advantage of March lies in its rhythm: the promenade and the marina are already alive, but still without the peak summer traffic. It is the perfect moment to ease into yachting and establish the habit of going out on the water regularly.

Limassol’s Marine Infrastructure: Where Yachts Are Moored

The city offers several key locations that support different yachting scenarios:

Limassol Marina — the central marina in the city. It includes 650 berths and accommodates yachts of up to 110 metres. This is an ideal format for urban yachting: you go out to sea, return — and remain in the heart of the city.

St Raphael Marina — another important marina in Limassol, and also an official port of entry. Its published capacity includes 237 berths, for yachts of up to 30 metres.

Clubs and Training: How to Begin Without Unnecessary Complexity

For beginners, the most reliable route into yachting is through club-based training: instructor guidance, safety, consistency, and visible progress.

Cyprus International Sailing Club (CISC) runs training sessions at Limassol Marina, with programmes suitable both for beginners and more experienced sailors.

March is particularly well suited for this: you can begin with the basics and by April or May feel ready for longer routes or even club racing.

How This Connects to Sunrock Residences

Yachting in Limassol does not have to be a rare occasion. In an urban setting, it often becomes part of the week: a short outing at sea, a training session, an evening at the marina. When choosing an apartment, the practical side matters too: from Sunrock, Limassol Marina and the leading yacht clubs are conveniently accessible — around 10 km away, making it easy to get out on the water without long travel times or excessive planning.
